‘At The Dark End of The Street’ is a much-needed read

The book At The Dark End Of The Street by Danielle McGuire surpassed my expectations.

McGuire sets the stage for an analysis of the Civil Rights Movement through a feminist perspective, drawing on how antiquated gender roles and ideas not only drove racist ideals and stereotypes at the time, but also how these were used as an advantage in rallying the black community.

McGuire’s analysis provided some much-needed investigation on the roles of Black women in the community and how significant an impact they had – as well as how these same gender roles were used to drive activism.
