Uruguay’s online schooling excels during pandemicMarch 2021
Uruguay’s online schooling during the corona pandemic has worked better than in many other countries thanks to government investments in digital education, reports DER SPIEGEL.
More than a decade ago the state started a policy of equipping every school kid with a computer. Government investments also included offering free Internet access in public squares around the country.
That’s made it possible for children, rich and poor, to continue their studies and keep regular contact with teachers even during pandemic lockdowns, writes DER SPIEGEL.
In contrast, schooling in other countries in Latin America has suffered significantly. The UN has said about a third of all Latin American children didn’t learn anything in school last year.
Uruguay has also outperformed richer countries such as Germany when it comes to providing kids with an education during the pandemic.
