Hawaii government declares climate emergencyApril 2021
Hawaii made history on April 29 when its state legislature passed a resolution to declare there’s a global climate emergency.
It’s the first US state to officially declare climate change is an emergency, reports The Hill. Hawaii now sees climate change as a threat and its government sees it must put more emphasis on dealing with it.
More than 1,900 local and national governments around the world have made a similar declaration. That includes Sydney City Council in Australia, Bangladesh’s National Assembly and the European Union.
