As streaming grows we take longer to find what to watch

September 2023
Streaming options are on the rise as Netflix and others increase programming. The flipside is that the average time it takes us to find something to watch is also increasing.

Competition between streaming services is fierce. Netflix, Disney+ and others have seen a growing number of rivals.

There are now 167 streaming providers compared with 118 two years ago, Bloomberg reports. The number of shows on streaming services has increased by almost 40% to 2.35 million.

Consumers are benefitting from the bigger selection of shows, but the average time wasted looking for something to watch has increased to over 10 minutes compared with about seven minutes in 2019.
