School uniforms become hot political issue
Politicians in different countries have been making headlines with controversial proposals about school uniforms as students go back to class after Summer break. In France, politicians are talking about starting a trial of mandatory school uniforms as a way to stop students from wearing religious clothing such as Muslims’

. France has already started a ban on abayas in school.
In the UK, where uniforms are mandatory, the opposition Labour Party has said that if it wins the next election, it will require that schools adopt more relaxed uniform rules.
Another reason why uniforms have made headlines in the UK is that some schools have introduced gender-neutral uniforms and scrapped the boys’ and girls’ alternatives.
In Thailand, earlier this year, the local government in Bangkok relaxed dress rules at its schools to allow students to wear casual clothes and hairstyle once a week.
